BMW Motorrad presented the first images of six-cylinder engine that you will use for motorcycle K1600 GTL. The unit is not a six-cylinder engine of big capacity like BMW has accustomed us, but only has a displacement of 1649 cc – which is the largest engine ever built by BMW Motorrad. The engine develops 160 hp and 175Nm. According to the BMW, 125 Nm will be available from 1,800 rpm. Compression ratio of this unit is 12.2:1 and the fuel consumption will be extremely close to that of a four-cylinder units.

Maximum torque is available at about 5,000 rpm, while maximum power comes in 7500 rpm. The engine has a width of 560 mm and a mass of only 102.6 kilograms. The unit is mounted transversely on the motorcycle’s frame and is the lightest and most compact six-cylinder engine mounted on a motorcycle ever. As for a Touring model, the engine is optimized to deliver power and torque in the lower and middle rev range – as proof of this, about 70% of maximum torque is available even from 1,500 rpm.

That engine has a throttle actuated electronically, not cable operated. The power is supplied to the rear wheel through a shaft – BMW tradition, while the Germans have introduced a system that helps the pilot to control the bike more easily. These modes are Rain, Road and Dynamic. ABS is offered in standard, and customers can opt for Dynamic Traction Control. Electronic suspension can be adjusted if the customer chooses ESA II system. Also, the chassis of the BMW K1600 GTL is equipped with DOULEVER and Paralever for optimal comfort and handling, and these technologies are being emphasized by a perfect balance of masses.

The crankshaft of the engine is constructed of aluminum and flat dry sump lubrication due to this model. Also, the front of the chassis is constructed of magnesium, while the back is made of aluminum. Protection at wind and rain has been improved, and ergonomics will be raised to higher rates for both pilot and passenger. The world premiere BMW K1600 GTL motorcycle will have a TFT display and a Multi-Controller that will enable customers to use many features of motorcycle more easily – among them was integrated heating system several levels of the handlebars and seat independently of each other. The integrated audio system also gets a navigation system, an interface for iPod and MP3 Player and Bluetooth.
